In recent years, new scalable infrastructure for storage and data analysis has been developed which has become known under the name Big Data. This type of technology has become indispensable for storing and analysing data in all kinds of application areas, from business to science.

In this course, students will read, understand, evaluate, and present selected research papers which hightlight some of the key technology in this area. At the end of the semester, each student will present his/her topic in a 20 min talk (+ 10 min discussion) in English.

First meeting where topics will be selected is on Tuesday, Nov 18, 2014, 12:00 s.t. Room 4.033.

Topics include:

  • Google's BigTable

  • Map Reduce
  • Graph processing with Pregel
  • Interactive Analytics with Columnar Databases
  • Stream mining
  • Big Data Beyond Map Reduce

This seminar is an elective course in the Machine Learning I module.
